Serco: Driving 21UP Movement Youth Empowerment Through Community Action

Serco Supports Youth at MBCC Awards 2025

We extend our sincere thanks to Serco UK for their leadership, commitment, and support in making the Multicultural Business and Community Champion (MBCC) Awards 2025 an inspiring experience for young people from the 21UP Movement.

Through the support of Serco and other sponsors, we were able to bring nine young people to the awards. For many, this was a chance to experience recognition, feel valued, and connect with business and community leaders driving change across the UK.

Attending the MBCC Awards gave participants confidence, widened their perspectives, and helped them see themselves as future contributors to society. Opportunities like this demonstrate the transformative power of investing in young people.

Thanks to Serco, our young participants experienced this inspiring community event.

21UP Movement Youth Empowerment in Action at the Stubbers Residential

Serco’s support also extended to the 21UP Movement Residential at Stubbers Adventure Centre, held from 18 to 20 February 2026.

This residential brought together 40 young people aged 10 to 18 from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and personal circumstances including participants with medical conditions and special needs. The programme created an inclusive space where young people could challenge themselves, build friendships, and develop confidence.

Many arrived feeling nervous or unsure. Over three days, they took part in creative media sessions, team challenges, and confidence-building activities that encouraged communication, leadership, and resilience.

Participants stepped away from mobile phones and digital distractions and instead focused on meaningful interactions, shared experiences, and teamwork.

Parents expressed how pleased they were to see their children return home more confident, engaged, and excited about new friendships and experiences. Many young participants are already asking to attend the next residential this summer, with some even suggesting the programme should be longer than two nights.

The impact of the residential is also reflected in its growth. From just 24 participants in the previous programme, the residential welcomed 40 young people this year, demonstrating the growing demand and positive impact of these opportunities.

Support from organisations such as Serco helps make experiences like this possible, strengthening 21UP Movement youth empowerment initiatives that create safe spaces for young people to learn, grow, and thrive.

Thanks to Serco’s support, these experiences are possible for young people across the UK.

2026 and Beyond: Action Agenda

We are grateful to Serco UK and all sponsors for helping young people access these high-impact experiences. Looking ahead, 21UP Movement remains committed to creating bold opportunities for UK youth through:

  • Expanding youth programmes into more schools and community spaces

  • Co-delivering creative workshops and essential skills development

  • Enabling experiences that build confidence and real-world leadership skills

  • Supporting safer and healthier environments where young people can thrive

  • Referring young people to structured, positive programme pathways

  • Co-creating youth-led projects aligned with community priorities

By supporting youth programmes, residentials, and workshops, schools, SEND teams, businesses, and community leaders can help young people conquer fears, build resilience, and reach their potential. Together, we can empower the next generation to rise to every challenge, create future opportunities, and make a lasting impact across the UK.

Why This Work Matters

Our residentials bring together 40 young people aged 10–18 from diverse backgrounds, including those with medical needs, SEND, or other challenges. Many arrive anxious or unsure, but after participation, they leave more confident, independent, and socially connected.

Opportunities like the MBCC Awards and Stubbers Residential create safe spaces for young people to step away from digital distractions, engage in meaningful interactions, and develop leadership skills. These experiences build essential life skills that statistics show are urgently needed: rising youth crime rates in the UK indicate growing vulnerability among 10–18-year-olds, and SEND reports highlight the critical importance of inclusion and structured support.

Our Summer Residential 2026 is planned to continue this growth, and with additional funding, we hope to break the 40-participant record, reaching more young people and expanding the impact of these transformative experiences.
